FERPA PROGRAMS FROM CLIFF RAMIREZ

FERPA For Education Officials

No matter what your individual responsibilities--teaching, advising, student services, counseling--education officials in higher education must become vitally familiar with the basics of the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  In this streamlined workshop, participants learn about the guarantees FERPA makes to students and how these guarantees affect their jobs as institutional officials.  The 60-90 minute workshop may be tailored to specific institutional audiences such as faculty, deans, administrators, student services staff, counselors, advisors, and campus life staff.

FERPA Forum

Cliff Ramirez, author of FERPA Clear and Simple and Managing the Privacy of Student Records, is available to host question-and-answer forums for staff of individual offices or divisions, addressing specific questions and offering information tailored to the specific audience group.  Groups may be faculty, deans, administrators, student services staff, counselors, advisors, and campus life staff.

Managing the Privacy of Student Records

In the past, the office of record at institutions of higher education has typically been the registrar's office, where official grades and transcripts are housed.  With the advent of technology, however, student records have multiplied across the campus, necessitating the need for training a growing number of records custodians on student privacy.  This workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the regulations with which all student recordkeepers must comply.  Participants learns the basics of FERPA, become familiar with the application of the regulations, and develop key decision-making abilities based upon the FERPA Regulations.  This workshops is best presented in 3 to 4 hours and uses Managing the Privacy of Student Records: A Textbook of FERPA Basics as the workshop textbook.
